Retro Cycle Works is seeking donations for the Baldwin County Sheriffs' Boys Ranch. With the holiday giving season approaching, the community is asked to lend a hand in obtaining household supplies and personal items for the boys ranch.

"Most people don't know about the needs of the Sheriffs' Boys Ranch," said Kent Stocker, of Retro Cycle Works, which is located on U. S. Highway 98 in Fairhope. "We adopted the group home several years ago and were able to get a lot of badly needed supplies for them.

The on-going list of needs include personal items such as socks, under garments and personal hygiene supplies; household needs such as cleaning supplies, kitchen items, and non-perishable food. "

"Actually, we need anything you would buy for your own home and family," said Jim Harmon, director of the Baldwin County Sheriffs' Boys Ranch. "And, just like your own family, we need these items on a regular basis."

The Baldwin County Sheriffs' Boys Ranch is a part of the Alabama Sheriffs' Youth Ranches, which is a charitable, nonprofit corporation, sponsored by the Alabama Sheriffs' Association and managed by a board of trustees. There are currently four ranches located throughout Alabama that serves either boys or girls. The Baldwin County Sheriffs' Boys Ranch is located on County Road 32 in Summerdale. The program is funded almost entirely by private donations from concerned individuals, churches, civic clubs, corporations and foundations.

Life on the ranch today centers around the premise on which the program was founded more than 30-years ago. Children live in a family setting with house parents. Hard work, responsibilities, manners and loving kindness are used to help children grow strong in body, mind and spirit. Residents of the home are ages six to 18 and are some of Alabama's needy, abandoned, neglected or abused, school-age children.

Donated items may be brought to Retro Cycle Works now thru December 15. A motorcycle ride-in will be held Saturday, December 15 at the shop on Highway 98 in Fairhope throughout the day. Bar-be-que plate lunches will be served for $5, with proceeds going to the boys ranch.

Retro Cycle Works, Inc. has factory-trained Harley-Davidson specialists offering service and repairs of Harley-Davidson and American V Twin motorcycles. With over thirty years experience in motorcycle service, rebuilding, custom and performance work, Retro Cycle Works, Inc. offers a full range of services for late model and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts. Come check out the museum of vintage bikes, which is a permanent display set up in the shop. A 1947 Seeburg Trash Can jukebox will be playing Christmas and big band tunes recorded on old 78 rpm records throughout the holiday season. The jukebox is on loan from local realtor Dan Callahan.
